DePaul Captures 80-71 Win Over Georgetown

Five Blue Demons finish in double figures in fifth-straight win
CHICAGO – In a back-and-forth BIG EAST battle at Wintrust Arena on Sunday evening, DePaul took down the visiting Georgetown Hoyas, 80-71, behind five Blue Demons in double figures. With the victory, DePaul improved to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play.
Aneesah Morrow led the balanced scoring effort with 28 points and 11 rebounds to record her eighth double-double of the season and 36th of her career.
Junior guard Darrione Rogers poured in 17 points to go along with four rebounds while Anaya Peoples totaled 14 points, five rebounds and four assists in a complete all-around performance.
Kendall Holmes notched 11 points included back-to-back triples in the fourth quarter and Jorie Allen rounded out the starting five in double figures with 10 points and eight rebounds.
After the two teams traded baskets through the first half of the opening quarter, a seven-point run from the Blue Demons pushed the lead to 19-10 after Morrow connected from long range. DePaul led 23-17 after 10 minutes.
The second quarter saw both sides struggle to connect from the field with a combined five field goals through the first five minutes. Morrow snapped a near six-minute stretch without a field goal with two minutes left in the quarter as the Blue Demons took a 40-35 advantage into the locker room.
Morrow led all scorers in the first 20 minutes with 21 points to go along with seven rebounds.
Georgetown (7-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) cut the Blue Demons lead to just one, before Allen connected on a three followed by a transition bucket to put DePaul back in front by six, 51-43, with just under four minutes left in the third. The Blue Demons led 53-49 heading into the final quarter of play.
Peoples and Holmes netted 14 of DePaul's first 16 points in the fourth quarter as the two sides continued to trade baskets. The Blue Demons drained seven of their last eight free throw attempts to put the game away and earn their fifth-consecutive victory and eighth win in the last nine games.

The Blue Demons will host Louisville on Wednesday, Dec. 21 for the 2022 non-conference finale. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT with the action televised nationally on FS1.
