
Blue Demons Complete 17-Point Comeback at Loyola

CHICAGO – In an instant series classic, the DePaul men's basketball team fought back from as large as a 17-point deficit in the first half to take down Loyola, 78-72, Saturday afternoon inside Gentile Arena.
Javan Johnson and Umoja Gibson were the driving forces behind the DePaul (5-3) victory, combining for 50 points. Johnson scored more than 25 in his second-straight game, ending the night with 27. He also added career-high six assists, four rebounds and two steals. Gibson tallied 23 points, four assists and four steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Demons struggled to find a defensive answer for Loyola, as the Ramblers shot 68.2 percent in the first half and DePaul was down 37-24 at halftime. The Blue Demons had a complete turnaround coming out of the locker room in the second half on a 7-0 run. Loyola answered and kept their lead hovering around double-digits.
With a little under 12 minutes in the half, DePaul took over as Jalen Terry jumpstarted a 13-2 run. Gibson capped off the run on a three-pointer that pulled the game within one point, 51-50.
DePaul took its first lead, 51-50, since the opening possession of the game on a Terry three-pointer. Loyola came back and tied the game on a three-point play, but neither team was able to score in the final minute of the period.
In overtime DePaul could not be denied, going a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor and never trailing by more than one possession. Gibson and Johnson were the only players to take a shot in OT as Gibson totaled 10 points in the five-minute period.

- Saturday marked the first back-to-back games with overtime wins in program history.
- The 17-point comeback marks the largest deficit overcame in a win since Nov. 26, 2019 where the Blue Demons overcame an 18-point deficit against Central Michigan.
- Johnson recorded back-to-back 20+ games for the first time in his career.
- DePaul moves to 39-19 in the all-time series and is 12-6 on the road.
- DePaul was 7-of-10 from three in the final 12 minutes of the second half and overtime.
- Terry recorded a season-high 11 points.
- The Blue Demons are 31-11 against Chicagoland opponents since the start of the 2000-01 season.
