Women's Tennis returns home with a split for their weekend in the Hoosier State
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – DePaul came home from its three-day visit to the Hoosier State with a split for the weekend.
After starting out on Friday with a 5-2 victory over BIG EAST opponent Butler, the Blue Demons ran into a talented Power Five school and we swept 7-0 by the Big Ten's Purdue.
DePaul (3-4) lost at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles as Purdue (6-3) grabbed an early 1-0 lead.
The Boilermakers went on to win all six singles matches although Eleanor Nobbs and Valentina Martin extended their matches to three sets.
Down a set, Nobbs bounced back to win the second set 6-4 against Juana Larranaga at No. 4 singles. But the Boilermaker claimed the point winning the third set.
Martin had the best chance to score for coach Marisa Arce's team. The junior from Orlando, Fla. topped Nathalia Wolf Gasparin 6-4 in the first set at No. 6 slot and had chances to put her away in set No. 2, only to see Gasparin escape with a 7-6(4) result and then claim the third set.
The Blue Demons will be the front end of a DePaul-Georgetown doubleheader on Saturday at XS Tennis Village. Arce's team will take on BIG EAST opponent Georgetown at 1:15 p.m. and then stick around to cheer for coach Matt Brothers' men's team in its matchup against the Hoyas at 4:15 p.m.
