Successful opener of DePaul doubleheader Saturday at XS Tennis Village
CHICAGO – The opener of a DePaul doubleheader was all Blue Demons Saturday at XS Tennis Village on the South Side.
Coach Marisa Arce and her team swept past Georgetown 7-0 after winning the doubles point and never looking back.
Next up was the men's match against the Hoyas with first serve scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
The doubles teams of Lenka Antonijevic/Kaya Rand and Eleanor Nobbs/Valentina Martin jump-started the home team by clinching the doubles point.
Hristina Djokic's 2021-22 singles debut was a smashing success with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 over Carmen Aizpurua.
But more importantly, it was the first singles match for the talented freshman from Serbia in nearly two years after overcoming injuries.
Valentina Martin, Marija Jovicic, Lenka Antonijevic, Eleanor Nobbs and Valentina Martin finished off the sweep with singles wins.
Jovicic, Nobbs and Martin came through in straight sets. Antonijevic prevailed over Chloe Bendetti in a tiebreaker 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(5) while Yergler did likewise topping Agata Mikos 3-6, 6-4, 1-0(8).
Arce and her players are back at XS Tennis on March 6 to take on Middle Tennessee State.
