Selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for record-breaking 12th time
CHICAGO – For a record-breaking 12th time this season, Aneesah Morrow is being honored as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
She keeps adding to her all-time mark which has surpassed the previous high of 10 set by Connecticut legend Maya Moore, Georgetown's Natalie Butler and Villanova's Maddy Siegrist.
In addition, her Blue Demon teammate Deja Church earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll. DePaul is the only team with two players being recognized.
Morrow averaged 22 points and a BIG EAST-best 16 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Blue Demons.
The 6-foot, 1-inch power forward began the week with 21 points and 17 rebounds in Wednesday's win over Marquette before racking up 23 points and 15 boards in Sunday's narrow setback at RV/- Villanova.
Both rebounding totals were game highs. She also shot .667 from the field and added 2.5 steals per contest.
She now has 21 consecutive double-doubles and 24 on the season. Only three other players in NCAA women's basketball history have recorded 20 or more in a row.
The 2021-22 All-American candidate eclipsed the all-time, single-season rebounding record of All-American Diana Vines on Sunday. Vines had 397 in 1986-87 and Morrow now has 401.
The dynamic rookie enters the week leading the nation in double-doubles, rebounds, rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game. She is second in field goals, fourth in points and sixth in steals.
On the season, Morrow is averaging 21 points and nearly 14 rebounds a game.
Church continues to shine in playing the best basketball of her career. The graduate student averaged 20 points and eight rebounds last week including 23 points and eight boards against Marquette.
Creighton's Emma Ronsiek was chosen BIG EAST Player of the Week after leading the Bluejays to a 2-0 week averaging 21 points and nine rebounds.
Joining Church on the Honor Roll were Christyn Williams of UConn, Camree Clegg (St. John's), Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Seton Hall) and Villanova's Siegrist.
Morrow, Church and their teammates are back in action Friday for a 7 p.m. game against Seton Hall at Wintrust Arena. Senior Night will be celebrated at the final home game with Dee Bekelja, Church, Lexi Held and Sonya Morris being honored.
