DMR Highlights Day One of BIG EAST Indoor Championships

DePaul claims three silver medals and sends a large group to Saturday’s finals
CHICAGO - The 2022 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships jump started at Gately Indoor in Chicago on Friday. The day was highlighted by a new program-best in the women's DMR as the Blue Demons fought to a second-place finish. The quartet of Nina Amicon, Sonja Nagle, Alexa Havon and Olivia Borowiak clocked an 11:27.76.
"We had a really great day of big performances," said head coach David Dopek. "With the women's DMR, our field events and all of the qualifying action, I'm very pleased with how we performed. It's going to be very exciting heading into tomorrow in a great position for some big performances."
With multiple field events wrapping up in Friday's action, DePaul came home with a podium finish in the men's weight throw and the women's long jump. Alex Bernstein notched a personal best with a throw of 18.33m to claim the silver medal. In the women's long jump, Tori Carroll posted a leap of 6.10m to also take second place. Carroll's leap improved upon the school record she notched earlier in the season.
In the track events, DePaul was fighting to advance individuals to Saturday's finals. In the prelims of the women's 60m hurdles, Dylan Armstrong turned in a personal best time of 8.62 to move on and Isabel Ingram also advanced with an 8.72. On the men's side Ashton Colaire, Darius Brown and Myles Marshall all qualified through the prelims.
In the 200m dash prelims, Kiersten Walker posted a personal-best time of 24.12 to claim her place in tomorrow's final. Jetta Mays also qualified for tomorrow's action, finishing sixth in the field. On the men's side, Michael Stanley and Dominic Cole both notched qualifying times to move on.
In the 400m dash, Kiersten Walker ran a 55.38 to advance while Jarel Terry posted a 48.27 to move on to the finals. The Blue Demons advanced a group in the 60m dash that included Tori Carroll, Jetta Mays, Cameron Attucks, Dominic Cole and Myles Marshall.
Action resumes tomorrow at Gately with track events starting at 10:20 a.m. CT and field events beginning at 10:30. The action will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on Flo Sports presented by SoFi.
