
Blue Demons Bounce Marquette on Senior Night

Five players in double figures lead DePaul past Marquette, 91-80, at Wintrust Arena
CHICAGO – A senior night special saw the Blue Demons roll past visiting Marquette, 91-80, on Wednesday night at Wintrust Arena. Javon Freeman-Liberty led five players in double figures with 26 points as the Blue Demons scored 58 points in the second half.
DePaul trailed early before a nine-point run turned a five-point deficit into a four-point lead. Yor Anei fed Brandon Johnson under the basket for a lay-in forcing a Marquette time out with 12:12 on the clock and the home team leading 15-11.
The next seven minutes went back-and-forth before Marquette reeled off seven consecutive points and held a 33-28 advantage with four minutes until halftime. The Golden Eagles held the lead for the remainder of the opening half and took a 37-33 lead into the break.
Marquette (18-11, 10-8 BIG EAST) took a seven-point lead early in the second half before the Blue Demons took control of the game with a 21-5 run that took just over three minutes. Jalen Terry hit two three-pointers during the run that sandwiched a Freeman-Liberty long ranger.
Another three-pointer for Freeman-Liberty pushed the advantage to 13 at 64-51 with 11:30 left in the second half and all that was left to decide was the final score.
DePaul (15-14, 6-13 BIG EAST) led by as many as 17 points twice in the second half as Brandon Johnson scored on a hook shot with 74-57 with 7:13 left in the second half.
Marquette pulled to within 10 in the final minute before the score settled at 91-80.
Freeman-Liberty added nine rebounds, five assists and three steals while Jalen Terry and David Jones totaled 16 points apiece. Johnson and Nick Ongenda each added 13 points.
Justin Lewis led Marquette with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
DePaul closes the regular season schedule on Saturday with a road trip to Connecticut. The Blue Demons and Huskies are scheduled for a 5 p.m. ET start in Storrs on FOX and WSCR (670 AM).
