Coach Matt Brothers' team wraps up its five-day California trip
LOS ANGELES – The Blue Demons finished up their California spring break tour Friday with perhaps their best performance of the week.
It just wasn't quite enough.
DePaul split the singles showdowns with Dartmouth but lost the doubles point in a 4-3 setback at the LMU Tennis Center on Loyola Marymount's campus.
After falling behind 1-0, coach Matt Brothers' team did their best to rally in the singles round against the Ivy League opponent who improved to 8-6.
At No. 1, Vito Tonejc prevailed 2-6, 6-4, 2-1 when Anders Gibbons retired in the third set. That gave the reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year two singles wins in DePaul's three West Coast matches.
Luuk Wassenaar won his second match of the trip with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 comeback win over Dartmouth's Andy Ilie at the No. 4 position.
At No. 5, Matteo Iaquinto played well in a 7-5, 6-2 straight-set victory over Daniel Webb.
The Blue Demons (6-11) are back in action April 2 with a BIG EAST matchup against Creighton at XS Tennis Village.
