CAYCE, S.C. – Performing at the absolute highest level in back-to-back pressure situations is a difficult task in the elite world of Division I sports.
After playing arguably their best match of the season on Saturday, the No. 4 seed Blue Demons fell to No. 3 Xavier 4-0 Sunday in the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship title showdown. The Musketeers repeated as conference champion.
Just 24 hours earlier, DePaul had stunned tennis fans at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center with a 4-2 upset of No. 1 St. John's who had won 13 in a row.
On Sunday, the Blue Demons (9-9) lost the doubles point and could not gain any traction in the singles round to mount a comeback.
Marija Jovicic won her first set 6-4 over Imani Graham and was trailing 2-0 in the second when Xavier (14-9) scored the clinching point.
