Five Blue Demons Head to the NCAA West Preliminaries

CHICAGO - DePaul Track & Field is headed to Fayetteville, Ark. for the NCAA West Preliminary Meet which begins on Wednesday. Jarel Terry, Darius Brown, Tori Carroll, Olivia Borowiak and Kiersten Walker all qualified to compete. The group will be looking to secure spots in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. in June.
Darius Brown will be the first competitor to see action for the Blue Demons, competing on Wednesday evening in the 110m hurdles. Last weekend, Brown placed 2nd in the 110m hurdles at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, with a time of 14.22. Brown broke the DePaul record in the 110m hurdles at the Clark Wood Invitational earlier this season, with a time of 14.14.
Just after the men's hurdles, Jarel Terry will be on the oval racing in the 400m. Terry is coming off of the BIG EAST Championships, last weekend, as a BIG EAST Champion in the 400m, crossing the finish line in 46.37. HIs other event wins in the 400m this season have been at the Clark Wood Invitational and the Illini Classic.
Tori Carroll will be kicking off the action for the women in the long jump. Carroll is also coming off of last weekend as a BIG EAST Champion in the long jump, jumping for a distance of 6.38m. Carroll competed in the long jump at the Clark Wood Invitational jumping for a distance of 6.01m to take fourth place.
Olivia Borowiak will be competing for the Blue Demons in the 1500m. Borowiak broke a DePaul school record in the 1500m this season that had been held since 2004. The record was broken at the Billy Hayes Invitational, with a time of 4:23.82. At the Marquette Invitational, Borowiak won the 1500m with a time of 4:34.52.
To finish off the evening, Kiersten Walker will be racing the 400m. Walker finished in fourth at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships last week, with a time of 54.16. Walker holds a pair of first-place finishes this season in the 400m from the Gibson Invitational and the Illini Classic.
Blue Demon action begins on Wednesday, May 25 at 6 p.m. CT.
