
Men’s Basketball Adds Transfers Umoja Gibson and Caleb Murphy

Duo set to join program for upcoming season
CHICAGO – DePaul head coach Tony Stubblefield announced today that Umoja Gibson and Caleb Murphy have joined the program as transfers. Gibson played the last two seasons at Oklahoma while Murphy heads to Lincoln Park after playing two seasons at USF.
"Both Umoja Gibson and Caleb Murphy bring high-level college experience to our program," said Stubblefield. "Mo has played in 128 games over his career at North Texas and Oklahoma and his veteran presence will make an immediate impact on our team while he also averaged double figures in two seasons in the Big 12. Caleb was a top 100 player out of high school and averaged double figures as a freshman last season at USF. Both players along with our other newcomers give us increased flexibility with our lineups and add multiple threats to our roster starting next season."
Gibson started his collegiate career at North Texas where he played in 66 games for the Mean Green. He played in just two games in 2017-18 before a season-ending injury in his second career game after starting his collegiate career with 19 points with four three-pointers. Gibson averaged 12.6 points with 99 three-pointers over 33 games in 2018-19 and 14.5 points per game with 86 three's in 2019-20.
The Waco, Texas native transferred to Oklahoma for the last two seasons that saw him average 9.1 points in 2020-21 with 58 three-pointers in 27 games before he totaled 92 three's last season with a scoring average of 13.3 points per game while starting all 35 games for the Sooners.
Over his career, Gibson holds a scoring average of 12.5 points per game with 339 career three-pointers over 128 games.
Murphy played in 52 games over two seasons in Tampa and averaged 10.1 points and 3.2 assists per game. He earned American Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team honors following the 2020-21 season after averaging 8.3 points that included eight games in double figures.
Last season saw Murphy lead USF in scoring at 11.4 points per game while he started all 31 games. The Youngstown, Ohio native added 3.4 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game with 24 games in double figures. He was a Top 100 recruit out of Grayson High School which was ranked as high as No. 10 nationally.
Gibson and Murphy join the incoming class that also includes Zion Cruz, Da'Sean Nelson and KT Raimey. Cruz is ranked among the Class of 2022 top shooting guards while Nelson and Raimey are both ranked among the top 20 junior college players in the country.
