In a closely contested game, Seton Hall comes away with 71-67 win
CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team was unable to come away with a victory against Seton Hall, Saturday afternoon, inside Wintrust Arena following a wire-to-wire game. The 71-67 contest featured 11 ties and 11 separate lead changes with neither team ever leading by more than seven.
Da'Sean Nelson led DePaul (8-10, 2-5 BIG EAST) for the second-straight game with 15 points. The Blue Demons finished with five double-digit scorers as Yor Anei contributed 13 followed by 11 from Umoja Gibson and 10 apiece by Javan Johnson and Philmon Gebrewhit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a game of runs, both teams had drawn out scoring stretches in the first half. Down 28-23, DePaul fired off eight straight points which included a pair of Gibson three-pointers. At the under-five minute mark in the half, Seton Hall took back the lead, 33-31, beginning a back-and-forth battle that would draw the teams even at the break.
After both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor in the first period, Seton Hall and DePaul came out cold in the second half for a combined 1-of-8. DePaul took advantage of opportunities at the free-throw line, opening the half on a 7-1 scoring advantage.
Seton Hall took a slim lead, 49-48, with 13 minutes left in the half and despite a tough effort from DePaul the Pirates would not trail again in the contest. The Blue Demons tied the game on four different occasions down the stretch but couldn't find the ultimate answer.
