Blue Demons Bring Home First Win of the Season Against IUPUI

DePaul returns from South Bend with a 1-1 record
SOUTH BEND - On Friday DePaul men's tennis (1-1) competed in a doubleheader against Notre Dame and IUPUI to open their 2023 dual season. The Blue Demons dropped their first competition to the Fighting Irish, 0-7, but came back to conquer the Jaguars 6-1 for their first official win of the season.Â
ÂThe Band of Brothers' started the day off with a 10 a.m. dual match against Notre Dame. The team fought hard against the top 40 program, carrying matches to three sets and very close tiebreakers. Ultimately, the Fighting Irish came out on top clinching all seven singles and doubles matches.Â
Â"We were right in that match against Notre Dame's top guys and that's a top 40 program right now so it really showed the guys and they came away with a lot of confidence after that match despite the loss," said head coach Matt Brothers. We played great for the first match of the season and came away with some things to work on."
ÂDePaul came back on the Eck Tennis Pavilion courts at 5 p.m. to face off against IUPUI. The top two doubles teams, Marino Jakic/ Aleska Krivokapic and Leon Huck/ Jona Gitschel defeated their opponents giving DePaul the doubles point.Â
ÂThe victories continued on the singles courts, Jakic, Huck, Sven Moser and freshman Pablo Torres Almeida claimed wins over their opponents in two sets. Krivokapic came back after a close tiebreaker in the first set against IUPUI's Kamil Kozerski, winning 6-7, 6-4, 10-5.
Â"It felt good to get our first win of the season. We're 1-1 and back to the practice courts to prepare for a couple of tough matches next weekend."Â
