Rogers leads four in double figures as Blue Demons down Musketeers
CINCINNATI, Ohio – DePaul led from start to finish in a 91-56 win over Xavier at the Cintas Center on Saturday afternoon. Four Blue Demons finished in double figures as DePaul improved to 11-7 and 4-3 in BIG EAST play.
Darrione Rogers led the way with 25 points while shooting at a 64-percent clip. Kendall Holmes added 18 points while matching her career-high with six three-point field goals on just eight attempts.
Aneesah Morrow and Keke Rimmer both notched double-doubles as DePaul outrebounded Xavier 47-28. Morrow claimed her 14th double-double of the season and 41st of her career with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go with five assists while Rimmer tallied a career-high 14 points and collected 10 rebounds.
The Blue Demons dished out 24 assists, a season-high in BIG EAST games, on 34 field goals while connecting on a season-best 14 three-point field goals.
Back-to-back triples from Holmes in the left corner put DePaul in front 12-4 at the first media timeout of the first quarter. Rogers connected from three to widen the lead to 16-4, before the Musketeers used a 6-0 run to cut into the lead. The Blue Demons closed the quarter on an 11-1 run to hold a 27-11 advantage after the first quarter.
A 20-4 run over a five-minute span widened DePaul's lead to 47-18 as Holmes and Rogers combined for five triples and 17 points in the second quarter alone. The Blue Demons held a 50-25 advantage heading into the locker room.
Holmes totaled 15 points in the first 20 minutes while Rogers had 14 of her own. The Blue Demons outrebounded the Musketeers 24-12 through the first two quarters.
Rimmer netted 10 points in the first five minutes of the third quarter, as DePaul widened their lead to 66-31 at the media timeout. Through three quarters, the Blue Demons led 74-39.
With reserves playing the final stretch, DePaul closed out the 35-point victory.
Mackayla Scarlett and Fernanda Ovalle each tallied 10 points to lead Xavier.
