Blue Demons Earn First Win of Season

BEAUMONT, Texas – The DePaul women's tennis team got their first win of the 2023 dual season on Friday afternoon.

"I was really happy with the way the girls handled the adversity of a windy outdoor match after only one outdoor practice," said Head Coach Marisa Arce. "Our doubles looked especially sharp and carried that momentum into singles. We're looking forward to a practice tomorrow and gearing up for North Texas on Sunday."

The Blue Demons got out to an early 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point. The Antonijevic and Kizelbasheva duo earned a 6-0 win over the Cardinals' No. 1 doubles team, while Valentina Martin and Eleanor Nobbs grabbed the second win in the doubles matchup.

Valentina Martin and Yuliya Kizelbasheva earned wins in the No. 3 and 1 spot, getting the Blue Demons out to 3-0.

The host Cardinals fought back to grab two points on the second and fourth courts, turning the score to 3-2.

The Blue Demons held the lead on the final two courts, and was able to get the match win on the third court behind Eleanor Nobbs' win in straight sets.

UP NEXT: The DePaul women's tennis team will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 22 as they face the University of North Texas. The match will begin at 12 p.m. and will take place at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas.
