Blue Demons held to season-low in points on .263 shooting from the field
STORRS, Conn. – An offbeat offensive outing saw DePaul fall 94-51 to the fifth-ranked Connecticut Huskies at Gampel Pavilion on Monday Night. The Blue Demons were stifled to a season-low in points on .263 shooting on the evening.
Aneesah Morrow led the Blue Demons effort with her 17th double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Maeve McErlane totaled a career-high nine points while dishing out four assists.
Darrione Rogers and Anaya Peoples chipped in seven-points apiece while Rogers collected six rebounds and Peoples matched her career-high with five steals.
A seven-point run for the Huskies pushed their lead to 12-5, before McErlane drilled a three from the top of the key to bring the Blue Demons back within four. A five-point Rogers run out of the media timeout, cut the deficit back to two but Connecticut poured in three of the last four baskets of the first period to take a 27-18 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Rogers' second three of the outing pulled DePaul within seven with three minutes gone by in the second quarter, before consecutive Husky buckets pushed the UConn lead to 35-24. A Peoples three broke a near-three-minute scoring drought for the Blue Demons, but the Huskies scored eight unanswered to close the half and take a 45-28 lead into the locker room.
Morrow recorded 11 first-half points to go with eight rebounds while Rogers chipped in seven points.
Connecticut (18-2, 11-0 BIG EAST) used an 18-1 run to open the third quarter and jump in front 63-31. DePaul (11-10, 4-6) closed out the final two minutes of the stanza on a 7-2 run behind baskets from McErlane, Jorie Allen and Peoples but the score after three favored the Huskies, 72-41.
UConn closed out the game with a 22-10 fourth quarter advantage with junior forward Aaliyah Edwards leading the Huskies with 23 points and 10 rebounds on the night.
