Blue Demons Meet Butler in Midweek Contest

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.– The DePaul men's basketball team travels east for a midweek contest against Butler, Wednesday, Jan. 4 for an 8 p.m. CT tip off. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Networks with Tom McCarthy and Steve Lappas on the call. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the radio broadcast on DePaulBlueDemons.com.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul (7-8, 1-3 BIG EAST) enters Wednesday's contest after splitting its BIG EAST games last week. The Blue Demons grabbed their first conference win against Georgetown, 83-76, following a 31-point performance by Umoja Gibson. Gibson shot was 8-of-12 with five three-pointers, five assists and four steals against the Hoyas.
In wins this season, DePaul has seen success from deep with the Blue Demons shooting 45.3 percent from three-point range in wins this season. Javan Johnson currently leads the BIG EAST and is top-25 nationally in three-point percentage, shooting 44.4 percent on the year.
THE SERIES
Butler leads the all-time series, 17-7, which includes an 8-3 advantage in Indianapolis. The two meetings last season between the teams were extremely competitive as DePaul lost by a combined six points. Wednesday will be the 25th all-time meeting between the two programs.
SCOUTING BUTLER
Butler (9-6) comes into Wednesday's matchup with a 1-3 BIG EAST record, the same as DePaul. Thad Matta is 19-3 at Hinkle Fieldhouse as Butler's head coach (2000-01, 22-23 seasons). The Bulldogs are led in scoring by Chuck Harris who is one of five players averaging in double-figure scoring.
Butler ranks third in the country in fewest fouls per game and are 38th in blocks per game. Manny Bates ranks 12th nationally with a 63.8 field goal percentage and is 21st with 2.33 blocks per game.
