Blue Demons hold Hoyas to a NCAA record field goals in second half
CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball turned in a dominant defensive performance Tuesday evening at Wintrust Arena, holding Georgetown to a season-low field goal percentage and tying an NCAA record in the 56-50 victory. The Blue Demons allowed just one field goal in the second half, matching the NCAA record for the fewest field goals allowed in a half in the shot clock era.
Brandon Maclin recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while NJ Benson tied a program BIG EAST record with 16 boards. As a team, DePaul limited Georgetown to 22.6 percent shooting from the field – the lowest by a DePaul opponent in a regular-season conference game since Marquette shot 20 percent on Feb. 16, 2000.

DePaul (10-6, 2-3 BIG EAST) opened the game with a 9-0 run, fueled by three-pointers from Maclin and Banks to take a 14-4 lead. Georgetown chipped away, knocking down its first three to pull within 20-17. The Hoyas took their first lead of the game, 33-30, behind an 8-1 run.
Trailing 35-32 at halftime, DePaul came out of the locker room with a ferocious defensive effort, holding Georgetown without a field goal for the first 10 minutes of the second half. The Blue Demons reclaimed the lead for good on a dunk by Benson.
