DePaul returns home on alumni and family weekend to welcome Bulldogs to Wish Field at 1 pm
CHICAGO – With four BIG EAST games remaining in the regular season, DePaul men's soccer is looking for a late surge beginning with a match against Butler on Saturday, Oct. 14. Kick off from Wish Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. with coverage on FloFC.
In celebration of DePaul University's Alumni and Family weekend, admission for all fans to Saturday's match is free.
A Look at the Blue Demons
DePaul is looking for its first win in conference play this season as the program returns home for three of its final four matches. The Blue Demons are coming off a 3-0 defeat at the hands of No. 5 Akron last weekend with all three Zips goals coming in the latter stages of the second half. It was a battle tested week for the Blue Demons after taking down then-No. 25 UIC 3-1 in a midweek non-conference matchup.
Freshman Noeh Hernandez was the bright spot in the win over the Flames, bagging a brace to put the Blue Demons back in the win column. Hernandez's four points lead the quad in 2023. Since the victory, Hernandez has earned his third call up to the Puerto Rican National Team in the last four months and is set to play with his nation in their CONCACAF Nations League match against Guyana on Saturday in St. Kitts.
Goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz remains one of the best keepers in the conference and in the country, making 62 saves in 11 matches to rank fourth nationally. Sophomore center back Ethan Gordon has started all 11 matches and played all 990 possible minutes for the Blue Demons this season.
About the Bulldogs
Butler is 2-6-3 on the season including a 1-2-1 mark against conference teams. Most recently, the Bulldogs drew 2-2 with Milwaukee in their non-conference finale. BU has earned a league win over Villanova while battling to a 2-2 decision against Creighton last weekend. Sophomore forward Palmer Ault paces the offense for Butler with five goals on the campaign, which ranks sixth in the BIG EAST. Goalkeeper Caleb Norris has recorded 64 saves on the season which ranks seconds nationally. Paul Snape is in his 13th season leading Butler's program.
Series Stuff
The Bulldogs lead the overall series, 8-2-5. A season ago, the two squads fought to a 1-1 draw in Indianapolis when Butler was ranked 20th nationally. Michael Anderson netted the lone goal for the Blue Demons on the match. The last time DePaul claimed a victory was in October of 2016, a 1-0 win in double overtime.
