
DePaul Drops Five-Set Match at Seton Hall

Blue Demons offense earns 73 kills in five sets
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - DePaul volleyball dropped a five-set thriller in their final match of the East Coast road swing, 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 28-26, 17-19), Saturday night.
DePaul (10-9, 3-5 BIG EAST) was led by Jill Pressly who recorded 24 kills and 14 digs, earning her seventh double-double of the season. Audrey Klemp and Aly Kindelberger chipped in double figure kills, tallying 14 and 10 respectively. Meghan Scholz had eight kills on a .368 hitting percentage while leading the team with five blocks.
Libero Rachel Krasowski had 27 digs on the night and freshman Nora Mannion totaled 14 digs, a new career high. Maggie Jones led the squad in assists with 33, as Ashley Cudiamat poured in 28 assists of her own.Â
Seton Hall (9-10, 3-5 BIG EAST) was led by Madeline Matheny with 19 kills and 17 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: A 3-0 run by the Pirates put them up early, 15-9. The Blue Demons responded with a 7-1 surge of their own as Kindelberger and Pressly recorded kills. Much back-and-forth commenced as the sides kept it close, but Seton Hall began to pull away as they went up 21-18. DePaul got within two, but the Pirates took the win with a 3-0 run.
SET TWO: A Blue Demons surge put them up 8-1 in the early stages of the set, highlighted with a block by Kindelberger and Pressly. A Pirates 6-1 run brought them within three, but DePaul notched kills by Nelson and Klemp to retake a five point lead. An ace and a kill from the Pirates cut the lead down, but a service error claimed the set for the Blue Demons.
SET THREE: Pressly's 11th kill of the night put the Blue Demons up, 5-4. The Pirates responded with a 5-0 run of their own to take a four point lead. DePaul surged ahead to get within one, but Seton Hall kept up a four point lead as they recorded two consecutive terminations. The Pirates ended the set on with a kill to take a 2-1 lead.
SET FOUR: A 4-0 surge by the Pirates put the hosts ahead, but was followed by much back-and-forth between both sides. The seventh kill of the night by Scholz put the Blue Demons within one, but Seton Hall went on a 3-0 run to cause a DePaul timeout. Following the timeout, Kindelberger and Klemp recorded kills to get within one and Pressly notched a termination to tie the match, 25-25. A Seton Hall error and two more kills from Pressly secured the set win for DePaul.
SET FIVE: An early 4-2 lead for the hosting Pirates was cut down as Klemp and Jones recorded kills. A quick 3-0 surge for the Blue Demons, powered forward with kills from Pressly and Klemp, and topped off with a quick termination from Klemp to gain the lead for DePaul. Much back-and-forth followed, including 12 ties and five lead changes. Klemp tied the match, 17-17, with her 14th kill of the night but the Pirates pulled away with a kill of their own.
UP NEXT
The Blue Demons will head on a Midwest roadtrip, visiting Xavier and Butler next weekend. The Blue Demons will meet the Musketeers on Friday, Oct. 20 and the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 21.Â
