Katlyn Gilbert posts 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals for seventh triple double in program history
CHICAGO— Katlyn Gilbert recorded the seventh triple-double in program history and DePaul led from start to finish in a 99-52 victory over Stonehill on Thursday night.
Gilbert finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals while also shooting 55 percent from the field and dishing out five assists.
Four Blue Demons joined Gilbert in double figures with graduate guard Anaya Peoples leading the way with her second-consecutive 20-point performance. Kate Clarke netted a career-high 17 points to go along with seven rebounds. Freshmen Sumer Lee and Charlece Ohiaeri followed behind, pouring in. 11 and 10 points respectively. All 11 active players scored for DePaul.
DePaul (2-0) showed their defensive prowess from the start, compiling 24 steals on the evening and turning the miscues into 44 points. The Blue Demons dominated points in the paint, 66-20.
How it Happened
After a frenetic start to the game on both ends of the floor, the Blue Demons closed the first quarter on a 25-3 run to take a 27-7 lead after 10 minutes of play. Peoples posted eight points in the first fame.
DePaul maintained the tempo and physicality in the second quarter, getting to the charity stripe on five occasions and knocking down 9-of-10 from the line in the period. Clarke exploded for six points and six rebounds in the second as DePaul led by a 31-point margin at the half.
Out of the locker room, Peoples and Clarke combined to go 7-for-7 from the field in the third quarter in addition to triples from Shakara McCline and Brynn Masikewich to bring a 75-35 advantage into the fourth.
The Blue Demons earned their largest lead of the game, 99-43, and never looked back to move to 2-0 on the young season.
