The Blue Demons bring home six first place finishes
CHICAGO – DePaul track and field completed the Blue and Gold Invite in South Bend, Ind. Friday evening. The team collected six first place finishes including Darius Brown's school recording breaking win in the men's 60m hurdles.
"That was a very solid opener for our Fall Track student-athletes," said head coach Dave Dopek. "Sprints, Jumps, Hurdles, and Throws all had exceptional beginning of the year performances. The team's energy was noticeably better, for an opener. As a team, they really came to compete and get the season off on a high note."
The Blue Demons started the day off strong with some field events. Billie Martin kicked off the season with a first place finish in the women's weight throw, achieving a new personal best with a final distance of 19.83m. On the men's side, Alex Bernstein captured silver in the men's weight throw with a distance of 20.15m.
In the women's triple jump, all three of DePaul's competitors had great performances. Alicia Jones took home first place after achieving a final distance of 11.92m, followed by Eveline Reno in second place and Jordyn Showers in fifth place
Graduate student transfer Kash Allen made her debut, pacing the women shot putters, coming in third with a final distance of 14.44m.
On the oval, Alexa Havon placed first in the women's 1,000m run with a final time of 2:58.80. In the women's 400m Nadja Moll took second with a final time of 56.43.
Brown triumphed in the 60m hurdles, setting a new school record with his time of 7.71. In the men's 300m, Jarel Terry almost eclipsed his own school record, taking silver with a final time of 34.21.
Several freshmen made successful debuts in their respective events including Claire Dunn, who placed fifth in the women's 400m, Daniel Fasasi, who took home third in the men's 400m and Nevaeh Lowe, who earned eighth in the women's 60m.
Both the men's and women's teams excelled in the 4x400m relays. Kayliah Motes, Dunn, Maia Mays and Nadja Moll earned first with a time of 3:55.87. On the men's side, Fasasi, Brown, Charles Lewis and Terry also placed first with a time of 3:14.81.
