Blue Demons Open BIG EAST Play at Xavier on Wednesday

CINCINNATI – DePaul women's basketball opens the 2023-24 BIG EAST season on Wednesday, Dec. 20 with a matchup at Xavier set to tipoff at 11 a.m. CST inside Cintas Center. FloHoops will carry the action with Mike Schmaltz and Rich Hoyt providing the commentary.

Noting the Blue Demons
- DePaul has won two in a row heading into Wednesday's matchup with the Musketeers after taking down Alabama State 98-69 at Wintrust Arena on Sunday.
- Against the Hornets, the Blue Demons scored 65 first-half points, the most points in a half since December of 2021, while knocking down a season-high 17 three-point field goals.
- Maeve McErlane and Kate Clarke combined for 46 of DePaul's 98 points. McErlane posted a career-high 26 points on 7-for-9 shooting from behind the arc while Clarke reached the 20-point threshold for the third time this season with four threes on six attempts.
- Three players are averaging double figures on the season with graduate guard Anaya Peoples paving the way at 19.7 points per game which ranks third in the BIG EAST. Peoples is fifth in the league in rebounding at 8.2 boards per game. Against Alabama State, she grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, her second double-digit effort on the boards this season.
- Graduate forward Jorie Allen has been lethal from the charity stripe, knocking down 30 of 32 attempts to rank third in the country with a .938 efficiency.
- Katlyn Gilbert's 33 steals this season is 14th among all Division I players. She owns four outings of four or more takeaways.
- The Blue Demons have been active in the passing lanes, forcing a BIG EAST-best 10.2 steals a game and grabbing 10 or more in six games this season.
- DePaul is the league leader in rebounds, averaging 41.25 boards per game. DePaul is +32 on the glass over the last four games.
- The Blue Demons rank 16th nationally and second in the BIG EAST with 19.2 assists per game. DePaul has totaled 20 or more assists on six occasions this season.
- DePaul is 14-4 (.777) all-time in BIG EAST openers since joining the league prior to the 2005-06 season. Last season, the Blue Demons took down Butler on the road 78-72 in the conference lid lifter.
Scouting Xavier
- The Musketeers are 1-8 this season and are coming off their first victory, a 68-43 win over Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Dec. 15.
- Senior guard Mackayla Scarlett is averaging a team-best 13.4 points on the season behind five double-figure performances.
- Nila Blackford leads the team in rebounding and is averaging a near double-double of 11.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
- Head coach Billi Chambers is in her first season leading the Musketeers after spending the previous 10 seasons at Iona.
Series Stuff
- The Blue Demons lead the all-time series, 25-1, and have won 25-consecutive meetings.
- A season ago, DePaul swept both meetings with the Musketeers, winning by an average margin of 40 points.
- DePaul is 11-1 all-time in games hosted in Cincinnati.
