DePaul Downs Alcorn State 77-39 to Win Fourth in A Row

CHICAGO – Stingy defense and balanced scoring lifted DePaul to its fourth-consecutive win on Thursday evening, a 77-39 rout over Alcorn State. The Blue Demons held an opponent under 40 points for the first time since 2014, while forcing the Braves to shoot just 25.9 percent from the field in the final non-conference contest of the season.
11 players entered the scoring column for DePaul while three finished in double figures. Freshman guard Shakara McCline led the effort with 13 points while Michelle Sidor and Kate Clarke added 12 apiece. The trio of Blue Demons impacted all phases of the game as McCline added five rebounds, three assists and three steals while Sidor tied her career-high with five assists and Clarke hauled in six boards.
Freshman Charlece Ohiaeri recorded nine points in 12 minutes of action while Jade Edwards notched a career-high in a DePaul uniform with eight points to go along with five rebounds. Haley Walker totaled a team-high seven rebounds.
DePaul (9-5, 1-0 BIG EAST) brought down a season-high 55 rebounds with six players grabbing six or more boards. The Blue Demons dished out 21 assists on 23 made field goals for its eighth outing this season with 20 or more helpers.
Nakia Cheatham led Alcorn State with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
How it Happened
DePaul opened the game on an 11-0 run, with made field goals from three different scorers including a pair of threes from Clarke. Alcorn State laid on pressure of their own, but were unable to reach double figures with the Blue Demons in front 19-4 after 10 minutes of play.
Threes from Michelle Sidor and Jade Edwards propelled DePaul into a 9-0 run and a 20-point lead midway through the second quarter. The Blue Demons closed the first half on a 21-4 run to take a commanding 40-12 advantage into the break.
Clarke led the first-half scoring effort with 10 points while McCline and Sidor had seven apiece.
The Blue Demons offense couldn't be contained in the third quarter, outscoring the Braves 24-10 to take a 64-22 edge into the final period.
With reserves playing the rest of the way, Alcorn State posted 17 points in the fourth quarter, but it didn't matter as DePaul closed out the victory with its second-highest margin of the season.
