Blue Demons Defeat Chicago State in Final Non-Conference Game

CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball closed out 2023 and its non-conference slate with a 70-58 win, Saturday afternoon. Four Blue Demons scored in the double digits with Elijah Fisher leading the pack with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
K.T. Raimey notched a career-high 15 points in addition to five rebounds and two assists. Da'Sean Nelson and Chico Carter Jr. both contributed 11 points. As a team, DePaul shot a season-high 56.5 percent on the afternoon including 47.1 percent from three.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Chicago State (7-12) opened up the game with a steady lead against DePaul (3-9, 0-1 BIG EAST), until Jalen Terry and Carter Jr. banked back-to-back threes for a one-point deficit, 13-12. Midway through the first period, Raimey led DePaul to a 9-0 run on three-consecutive three-pointers for a 21-17 lead. After taking the lead, DePaul would not trail again, holding a double-digit lead through most of the game.
After holding a 32-30 halftime lead, DePaul came out firing to open the second-half on an 11-0 run. The Blue Demons did not allow Chicago State to score in the opening four minutes of the game for a 41-20 lead. The Cougars continued to pressure, eventually cutting the Blue Demons lead to single-digits, 42-34. Nelson extended DePaul's advantage back to 10 on back-to-back layups as the Blue Demons successfully held off Chicago State to close out the game.
