CHICAGO – DePaul track and field hosts its third annual Blue Demon Holiday Invite, Friday Dec. 8. First events are set to begin at 2 p.m. Fans can keep up with all the action here. The event will be held at Gately Indoor Park with free admission.
The Blue Demons are joined by nine other programs including BIG EAST competitor, Marquette and cross town rival Loyola Chicago. Last year, Jarel Terry and Jaiah Hopf had school record breaking performances in their respective events, with Hopf clearing her previous triple jump record and Terry smashing the men's 300m record with a 34.14 time.
At tomorrow's meet the men's 300m is a highly anticipated event, with Terry and recently crowned BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week Darius Brown competing. On the women's side, Claire Dunn, Maia Mays, Leandria Elam and Kayliah Motes will compete in the women's 300m at 7:45 p.m.
The day-long competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. with some field events including the women's high jump. Last season, Eveline Reno claimed first and set a meet record in the women's high jump after clearing 1.71m. Amelia Barrington will compete alongside Reno with Patrick Diakite representing the Blue Demons on the men's side.
The running events begin at 5 p.m. with the men's 60m hurdles prelims starring Paul Goins and Myles Marshall. Followed by the women's 60m prelims featuring Jetta Mays and Nevaeh Lowe.
In the women's shot put, fans can expect to see performances by Noelle Malkamaki, Kash Allen, Jessica Beckman, Kindle Miles and Kylee Stammer. Ian Cox will represent the Blue Demons on the men's side.
Reigning BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, Billie Martin is set to compete in the women's weight throw after her most recent performance at the Blue and Gold Invite gave her a fourth place national ranking.
Alex Bernstein, who earned the same BIG EAST Weekly Award on the men's side, currently sits in seventh place nationally for the men's weight throw. He will compete in the respective event at 3:30 p.m with fellow Blue Demons, Tommy Goggin and Ian Cox.
The meet closes out with the women's and men's 4x400m relays starting at 8:35 and 8:50 p.m., respectively. Kayliah Motes, Maia Mays, Dunn and Nadja Moll are set to compete after earning gold with a time of 3:55.87 at the Blue and Gold Invite. On the men's side, Brown join forces with Terry, Daniel Fasasi and Charles Lewis in the hopes of replicating another first place finish from their winning time of 3:14.81 also at last weekend's Blue and Gold Invite.
