DePaul Crowns 12 Event Champions at Blue Demon Holiday Classic

Blue Demons post strong showings across all disciplines Friday night
CHICAGO – DePaul track & field turned in a strong performance Friday evening at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center, producing 12 event champions and 21 personal bests in its first home meet of the 2025–26 indoor season.
In the women's weight throw, the Blue Demons swept the top six spots, led by Elena Opp, who won the event with a throw of 16.23 meters. Laila Richardson and Katina Maclin recorded personal bests of 15.62 and 15.11 meters, respectively. Richardson also captured the shot put title with a mark of 12.64 meters, while Lauren Drew finished second with a personal-best 12.07.
Isaiah Hopf placed second in the men's long jump with a personal-best mark of 6.83 meters, while Vivian Jones posted a personal record of 5.41 meters on the women's side.
Sophomore Jaiden Gary delivered a standout performance in the throwing events, winning the men's weight throw with a personal-best 18.12 meters before claiming the shot put title at 17.30 meters. Quinton Boyd finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.31 meters, and Sergio Ayala placed second in the shot put with a personal-best 14.72.
Graduate student Katelyn Welsh earned her first event victory as a Blue Demon in the pole vault, clearing 3.55 meters to break her own school record set a season ago.
In her 2025–26 triple jump debut, Hopf led a trio of Blue Demons on the podium with a winning leap of 12.45 meters.
Amy Carhee recorded a personal-best time of 8.65 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to finish second, while Jones added another top-three finish with a time of 8.91.
On the track, DePaul went one-two in the 400 meters as Daniel Fasasi claimed first in 48.82 seconds, followed by Harper Bryan, who set a personal best at 49.70.
Sade Miller improved on her performance from a week ago to win the 60 meters in 7.47 seconds, with Nevaeh Lowe finishing second at 7.66. On the men's side, Alex Long-Craine shaved a full tenth off his previous time to take first in 6.90 seconds, while Amaru Mazibuko placed third with a personal-best 6.93.
Sophomore Amelia Montgomery captured the first event win of her career with a personal-best time of 1:35.89 in the 600 meters. John Bush followed with a personal-record 1:19.90 to place second on the men's side.
The Blue Demons dominated the 300m as Aisha Kazeem won the women's race with a personal-best 41.17, while Denhm Holt claimed the men's title in 33.84.
DePaul closed the meet in dramatic fashion with a victory in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of Ian Bello, Daniel Fasasi, Harper Bryan and Denhm Holt crossed the line in 3:16.78, highlighted by Fasasi's 47.1 split on the second leg that set the stage for Bryan and Holt to seal the win.
