Blue Demons Begin East Coast Road Swing with St. John’s on Saturday

DePaul meets St. John's at Carnesecca Arena at 3 p.m. CT
QUEENS, N.Y. – DePaul begins the first of two road trips remaining in the 2022-23 regular season with a visit to St. John's on Saturday, Feb. 11. The Blue Demons and Red Storm are set to tipoff at 3 p.m. CT inside Carnesecca Arena with coverage on the BIG EAST Digital Network carried by FloHoops. Austin Rooney (play-by-play) and Kim Adams (Analyst) will bring fans the action.
With just over two weeks remaining in BIG EAST play, both squads are jockeying for postseason position as the Red Storm enter the weekend fourth in the league standings with a 9-5 mark while DePaul currently sits in seventh at 6-7 poised to make a late-season run.
About DePaul
The Blue Demons are coming off back-to-back wins at home including a 45-point win over Xavier last weekend before an 87-62 victory against Butler on Wednesday. In each of the last two games, four Blue Demons finished in double figures as DePaul shared the ball extremely well registering a combined 52 assists.
Against the Bulldogs, Darrione Rogers and Aneesah Morrow each scored 23 points as the Blue Demons neared a season-best in field goal percentage at 57-percent mark.
Rogers shot 87-percent herself on seven-of-eight shooting while adding five rebounds and four assists Morrow turned in her 19th double-double and 45th of her career with 14 rebounds to go along with a career-high six assists and three steals.
Sharpshooting junior guard Kendall Holmes is averaging 10.3 points per game this season while shooting 42.7 percent from three-point range which is third best in the BIG EAST. Against Xavier, Holmes matched her season-high with 21 points on four field goals from behind the arc.
The Blue Demons lead the league in rebounds at 41.2 caroms a contest and most recently out-rebounded Butler 42-24. DePaul is 11-4 this season when grabbing more boards than its opponent.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Blue Demons pace the conference in steals at 9.1 swipes per game while collecting 10 or more takeaways on six occasions in 2022-23.
About St. John's
The Red Storm are 18-5 overall and most recently picked up a 73-52 win over Xavier in Cincinnati two snap a two-game skid. Four Johnnies finished in double figures over the Musketeers led by Kadaja Bailey's 15 points.
Pitt transfer Jayla Everett leads the Red Storm with 16.5 points per game which ranks seventh in the BIG EAST while Bailey adds 13.8 points a contest to go with 4.6 rebounds. On the glass, Rayven Peeples (8.6) and Jillian Archer (8.0) rank fifth and sixth, respectively, among BIG EAST rebounders.
As a team, St. John's is second in the league in field-goal percentage at .452 and blocked shots at 4.2 rejections per game.
The Series
DePaul holds a 25-6 series lead over the Red Storm including an 11-2 advantage in games played at Carnesecca Arena. Last time the two teams met, St. John's took an 81-72 decision at Wintrust Arena.
In the late January meeting, Morrow led the way with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
