SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – It was a back-and-forth battle that didn't go DePaul's way Monday night as Seton Hall came away with the 89-82 victory at Walsh Gym. The Blue Demons cut what was once a 16-point deficit to five with a minute remaining but couldn't complete the comeback in the first of two meetings between the two programs this week.Â

Rogers eclipsed 1,000 career points on the night while adding six rebounds and four assists. Anaya Peoples finished in double figures with 11 points and four steals. Â
Seton Hall (16-10, 9-7 BIG EAST) opened the second quarter on a 12-0 run to claim a 30-22 lead. The Blue Demons cut it to four on a Morrow and-one, 37-33, but the Pirates lethal shooting of 76-percent in the second quarter allowed the hosts to pull in front 52-41 at the half.

Â
DePaul (13-13, 6-9) trimmed the halftime deficit with an 8-0 run over 90 seconds, chasing four points with 5:12 remaining in the third. In a game of runs, the Pirates responded with nine unanswered of their own, before the Blue Demons scored the final five points of the quarter to come within seven, 68-61.
