Blue Demons Start Stretch Against Ranked Opponents

DePaul Makes Trip Up North Against #10/9 Marquette
MILWAUKEE – The DePaul men's basketball team begins a three-game stretch against ranked opponents as they travel north to take on #10/#9 Marquette, Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023. The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. CT tip time on FS1. Matt Schumacker and Stephen Bardo have the television call, while Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine have the radio call on WSCR 670 The Score.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul (9-19, 3-14 BIG EAST) continues to be led by their three-point shooting, ranking second in the BIG EAST with a 35.9 three-point percentage. Individually, Umoja Gibson leads the BIG EAST and is 23rd nationally with a 41.8 percent from deep.
After missing the first 25 games of the season with injury, Nick Ongenda has quickly shown his importance to the Blue Demons. In his three games this season, Ongenda is averaging 7.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and six blocks per game. Ongenda has recorded six or more blocks in all three games and most recently moved into seventh all-time at DePaul with 118 career blocks.
THE SERIES
Marquette leads the all-time series, 82-50, including the earlier meeting of the teams this season. The Golden Eagles won 89-69 in Chicago on Jan. 28. DePaul held the game to one point at halftime and kept within single digits until the final 10 minutes of the game. Umoja Gibson had a team-high 25 points in the earlier season meeting.
DePaul's last win in Fiserv Forum came in 2021, 68-61.

Marquette enters Saturday's game with an opportunity to clinch a share of the BIG EAST regular season title, their first since 2012-13. The Golden Eagles have won three-straight and are 14-1 at home this season.
As a team, Marquette ranks third nationally in fastbreak points (16.07), fifth in field goal percentage (16.07) and seven in assists per game (17.5). Tyler Kolek has held down the offense, averaging 7.6 assists per game and 212 total assists which are good for second nationally. Kam Jones is the team's leading scorer with 15.0 points per game.
