DePaul Men’s Tennis takes Home its Fifth Win of the Season
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – DePaul men's tennis (5-2) claims its first road victory after defeating Purdue 5-2 Friday night. Jona Gitschel nabbed the fourth point of the competition for the Blue Tennis to take home the win.Â
Â"Guys competed really well tonight," said head coach Matt Brothers. "Overcame a lot of adversity after not playing well in doubles and losing the point. We are a very deep and talented team that still has a lot of room for growth."
The Blue Demons fell behind early after the Boilermakers won the doubles point. Duos Leon Huck/Jona Gitschel and Pablo Torres Almeida/Matteo Iaquinto were held off by their opponents leaving Sven Moser/Shourya Verma's match unfinished.Â
However, DePaul quickly picked up their momentum. Huck conquered Purdue's Milledge Cossu for the Blue Demon's first point of the evening 6-3, 6-2. The win seemed to start a domino effect of victories after Verma and Moser also defeated their opponents in two sets to tie the competition.Â
Gitschel secured the win for DePaul after overcoming Purdue's Hassan Baroudi in a hard fought three sets 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-4.Â

The Blue Demons travel to Des Moines, Iowa. on Friday, Feb. 10 for a matchup against Drake University.Â
