
Creighton Holds off Blue Demons

CHICAGO – A hot-shooting second half DePaul team was held off by Creighton, 84-70, Saturday evening in the Blue Demons regular-season finale at Wintrust Arena. DePaul was led by a team-high 18 points from Javan Johnson in addition to 13 points apiece from Nick Ongenda and Caleb Murphy.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After going down 15-points at halftime after a late first half run by the Blue Jays, DePaul came out in the second half shooting 78.6 percent (11-of-14) to bring the game within 10, 54-44 with 13 minutes to play.
Murphy picked up as a spark off the bench starting an 8-0 DePaul run that cut the deficit all the way down to five, 59-54. With 10 minutes left to play, Creighton quickly answered on some crucial baskets that was able to hold off the Blue Demons.

- Murphy scored a season-high 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting with four rebounds and two assists. It was Murphy's first double-digit scoring game of his career.
- Eral Penn recorded his 1300th career point in the second half.
- DePaul extended its stretch as a team of 920 consecutive games with a three-pointer.
- Saturday was the first game all season the Blue Demons have had a fully healthy bench for the entire game.
- Javan recorded a game-high five assists, tying a season-best.
