DePaul set for a first round matchup against Seton Hall
NEW YORK – The DePaul men's basketball team is set to kick off action at the BIG EAST Tournament, Wed., March 8 against Seton Hall. The Blue Demons will face off in the 7-10 matchup as the No. 10 seed in the tournament. Action is slated to tip off at 4:30 C.T. on FS1 with Tim Brando and Bill Raftery on the call and Kristina Park handling sideline. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the radio broadcast on DePaulBlueDemons.com.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul (9-22, 3-17 BIG EAST) enters the tournament after concluding its regular season March 4 against Creighton. Despite dropping their last 12 games, DePaul has outscored its opponents in the second half in four of their last five games.
The Blue Demons have been lead this season by experienced guard, Umoja Gibson. Gibson is averaging 15.8 points per game and leads the BIG EAST in three-point percentage (.412) and steals (59). Nick Ongenda has been a boost for DePaul, making his season debut on Feb. 14 against St. John's. In his six games played, Ongenda is averaging 11.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.7 blocks and 1.3 steals per game.

DePaul in 4-14 all-time in the BIG EAST Tournament with the team advancing to the quarterfinal in 2014 and 2020. The Blue Demons have won their first round matchup in the two of their last three conference tournaments, defeating Providence 70-62 in 2021.
DePaul has a total of eight players who have never appeared in the BIG EAST Tournament before, with the only returners being Yor Anei, Ongenda, Jalen Terry and Philmon Gebrewhit. Ongenda has a career average of 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in the league tournament.

Wednesday will be the first all-time meeting between DePaul and Seton Hall in postseason play. The two teams have met at a neutral site only once before in program history in 1988.
Seton Hall leads the all-time series 23-9, including both regular-season matchups between the two teams. The pair of games this season between DePaul and Seton Hall was decided by a combined nine points. The last 11 meetings between the programs have been single-digit games, with five of them being four points or less.

Seton Hall (17-14, 10-10 BIG EAST) won their regular-season matchup on the road against Providence, 82-58. The Pirates were led by a 24-point performance from Dre Davis off the bench. Seton Hall finished the regular season 10-6 at home, 6-6 on the road and 1-2 in neutral sites.
Al-Amir Dawes is the team's leading scorer, averaging 12.6 points per game. As a team, Seton Hall ranks top-50 nationally in several categories including blocks per game (4.5), free throws made per game (15.2), steals per game (8.4) and three-point percentage defense (.306).
