CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer welcomed Emily Flood as an official member of the squad in partnership with Team IMPACT on Friday, August 11.
"We are really excited to officially sign Emily to our team," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "In getting to know her these past few months, it is evident what a strong and positive little girl she is. Her charismatic personality speaks for itself, and it is clear she is a natural born leader."
Emily, an eight year-old from Ill. was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Off the field, Emily enjoys doing arts and crafts, reading, playing board games, drawing with sidewalk chalk, Disney (especially Frozen), and spending time with her two younger brothers, Jack and Colin. Emily is also an active member in Girl Scouts and does ballet during the school year.
"DePaul women's soccer prides itself on its fighting, never quit mentality and Emily certainly embodies those qualities" O'Brien continued. "She is a great example of what a fighter is, and our team will certainly be reminded of her qualities when times are tough. We are grateful to have Emily be a part of our program."
On Friday afternoon, Emily was joined by the entire DePaul team on the Lincoln Park campus for a signing party. The energetic 3rd grader led the team in singing and dancing before sitting alongside her family and signing her official National Letter of Intent (NLI). As a member of the program, Emily will attend DePaul practices, games and other team events.
