DePaul Hosts Marquette in First of Final Three Home Contests of 2026

Blue Demons look to secure first win of BIG EAST play
CHICAGO – The DePaul women's soccer team returns to Wish Field on Saturday, Oct. 10, hosting Marquette as the Blue Demons look to bounce back from a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Butler and lock in their first conference win of the season. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
DePaul Debrief
After taking a 2-1 lead less than three minutes into the second half, DePaul women's soccer conceded two goals in the 74th and 79th minutes, falling 3-2 to the Butler Bulldogs at Wish Field.
DePaul claimed the early advantage in just the ninth minute on a sequence that started when freshman forward Katelyn Haiser sent a leading pass to Shayna da Silva, who rocketed the first shot on goal. Butler goalkeeper Addison Ash denied the first shot, but da Silva netted her own rebound to give DePaul a 1-0 lead.
Butler responded with a goal in the 22nd minute, taking advantage of a throw-in deep in its attacking third to even the score.
The rest of the half remained scoreless, and the teams entered the break firmly tied at 1-1. Coming out of halftime, the Blue Demons took a 2-1 lead after a corner kick sent in by da Silva was punched into the back of the goal by Jericho Frigon in the 48th minute.
Though DePaul managed three more on-target shots in the second half, Butler's Gemma Gillespie broke through on two set pieces to give the Bulldogs the equalizer and game-winner.
Scouting Marquette
The Golden Eagles head into their fourth match of BIG EAST play after drawing Butler and Georgetown and picking up their first victory, 2-1, against Creighton on Oct. 7.
Against the Bluejays, Megan Murray and Kaylie Sheehan scored Marquette's two goals. Murray kicked off scoring for the Golden Eagles before Sheehan notched the game-winner in the 82nd minute with an assist from Emily Fix.
Freshman goalkeeper Mia Hurd recorded a season-high six saves in the matchup. This season, Hurd has made 42 saves and allowed six goals.
Haley Christianson and Murray lead all scorers with four goals each across 12 matches. Sheehan sits close behind with two of Marquette's 18 total goals. The Golden Eagles have recorded 15 assists this season, with Sheehan and Claire Shea earning three apiece.
Series History
The Golden Eagle and Blue Demon women's soccer programs have a long 30-plus history. Since 1996, the two teams have played 30 times. Marquette holds a 21-6-3 record overall and took the win in the last meeting, defeating DePaul 4-1 in Milwaukee.
