
DePaul Athletics Announces 2023 Hall of Fame Class

CHICAGO – DePaul Athletics has announced its 2023 Hall of Fame Class, recognizing six individuals for their exceptional contributions to the achievements and distinction of DePaul University. The 2023 class features Sarah Martz (Softball), Sammy Mejia (Men's Basketball), Brad Millar (Men's Track & Field), Erin Moffett (Women's Cross Country/Track & Field), Julianne Sitch (Women's Soccer) and Khara Smith (Women's Basketball).
The class marks the first since 2019 following a revision of the selection criteria in 2022. Full list of selection criteria can be found here.
"I am so excited to welcome our newest inductees to the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame," said Vice President and Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy. The six former student-athletes in the Class of 2023 have all had outstanding careers as Blue Demons garnering numerous awards and accolades. They will be joining an elite group that has helped shape the history of success in DePaul Athletics."
Details for the recognition weekend and induction ceremony will be announced at a later date.
Sarah Martz
Martz finished her DePaul career as a three-time All-American and three-time Academic All-American, playing from 2000-04. A workhorse for DePaul as a utility player, she remains the program's all-time leader for complete games in a season in 2004 and ranks second all-time with 32 career shutouts. Martz was the 2001 Conference USA Player of the Year as she led the Blue Demons to the regular-season championship title. During her career, DePaul won the regular season and tournament title in 2002 and 2003, advancing to three-straight NCAA Tournaments.
Additionally, Martz was a four-time NFCA All-Mideast Region First Team and the 2004 NCAA Illinois Woman of the Year. She went on to tryout in 2004 for the USA Softball National Team.
Sammy Mejia
Mejia played for DePaul from 2003-07 where he was an integral part in the Blue Demons 2004 NCAA Tournament team. He currently ranks 13th all-time at DePaul with 1,494 career points and was the second player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, 100 steals and 100 three-pointers. He also ranks ninth all-time with 396 career assists. Mejia led the Blue Demons in 2006 with 14.9 points per game after shooting 48.4 percent. He was a 2007 All-BIG EAST selection.
Mejia went on to be a second round NBA Draft pick in 2007 before playing professionally abroad for over a decade.
Brad Millar
Millar competed for DePaul from 2006-10 where he became a First Team All-American. His four BIG EAST titles remain tied for the second-most in program history, behind Dave Dopek, doing so in two different events. Millar won the outdoor hammer title in 2007, 2008 and 2010 in addition to the indoor weight throw. He capped off his career in 2010 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships where he finished seventh overall. He was also the 2010 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree.
Following his DePaul career, Millar represented Canada at U23 2008 NACAC in Toluca, Canada.
Erin Moffett
Moffett became DePaul's first cross country All-American in 2002 and went on to cement a legacy. She was 2002 Conference USA Athlete of the Year and went on to win the NCAA Midwest Regional before finishing 37th overall at NCAA Championships. Moffett also was the 2001 Conference USA Cross Country Champion, 2004 Conference USA Indoor 3,000-meter Champion and 2004 Conference USA Outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase Champion.
Moffett remains the school record holder for the 10,000-meter run, 3,000-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase and is a member of the record-holding 4x1500-meter relay team. She continued her running career professionally, competiting in the 2016 and 2020 US Olympic Marathon Trials.
Julianne Sitch
Sitch played at DePaul from 2002-2005 where she etched her name in the record books as one of the best players in program history. She holds the DePaul school career records in points (90) and assists (26) and ranks third all-time in goals (32) in addition to being 2003 Conference USA Player of the Year. In 2003, she became the first player in program history to earn All-America honors on her way to leading DePaul to its first NCAA Appearance.
Following her collegiate career, she went on to play professionally and is currently the head coach for the women's soccer program at Denver. Last fall, Sitch made history as the first female head coach of an NCAA men's soccer team to win a national championship after leading the University of Chicago to their first Division III national title.
Khara Smith
Smith is DePaul women's basketball's only three-time All-American, after playing at DePaul from 2002-06. Over 15 years after her career, she remains the school's all-time leading rebounder (1,369) and ranks second all-time with 2,241 career points while shooting 59.2 percent from the field. Smith left DePaul as the program's all-time leader in games played, rebounds and field goal percentage. During her career she helped lead the Blue Demons to four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including the program's first Sweet Sixteen in 2006. Smith was a three-time All-Conference honoree, Conference USA Freshman of the Year and a member of the Conference-USA All-Decade Team. She was also a member of the Blue Demons 2005 Conference USA Championship team, the first tournament title in program history.
