Blue Demons return to action Monday at 11:30 a.m.
CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Bradley on Friday afternoon at Wish Field in a physical clash between in-state foes. A Braves goal through traffic in the 64th was the difference maker despite a handful of quality looks from the Blue Demons.
DePaul (1-2) applied pressure early, earning four corner kicks in the first 14 minutes of action. Press turned into chances, including none better than a Callum Watts penalty kick in the 19th minute that was swallowed up by the Braves goalkeeper.
Gandhi Cruz and the back line were tested but never broke in the first half with Cruz making five of his seven saves in the first 45 minutes.
The teams went into halftime, locked in a 0-0 stalemate.
The Blue Demons came out of intermission aggressive in the attacking third with a pair of great scoring opportunities off the boots of Marek Gonda and Noeh Hernandez but to no avail.
Bradley (2-0-1) broke the scoreless affair in the 64th minute after the Blue Demons were dispossessed in the midfield and the Braves transitioned down field quickly and eventually found the foot of Gonzalo Gil who scored what proved to be the game winner.
Pressing to find the late equalizer, DePaul found chances in the final 10 minutes including a laser from Hernandez that sailed just north of the cross bar.
As time ticked away, the Braves were there at every turn and went on to claim the victory.
Up Next: The Blue Demons face a quick turnaround with a return to Wish Field set for Monday, Sept. 4 for a match with Northwestern. Kick off is set for 11:30 a.m.
