Michelle Sidor ties career-high with 19 points to lead the Blue Demons
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball returned to the win column with a 79-47 victory over Xavier on Tuesday evening at Wintrust Arena. Nine Blue Demons recorded at least one field goal while the team dished out 21 assists on 29 made baskets and totaled a +16 margin on the glass.
Three players finished in double figures led by Michelle Sidor's 19 points, which tied a career-high, on five three-point field goals. Jorie Allen totaled 12 points to go with six rebounds while going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Anaya Peoples did a little bit of everything with 11 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals for her third double-double of the season and ninth of her career.
Kate Clarke and Charlece Ohiaeri poured in eight points apiece while Clarke hauled in a career-best eight boards. Katlyn Gilbert chipped in seven rebounds, seven points and four assists.
DePaul (10-9, 2-4 BIG EAST) went 9-for-9 from the charity stripe, going perfect from the line for the second-consecutive game. The Blue Demons also turned 21 Musketeer turnovers into 26 points.
Xavier (1-14, 0-6) was paced by Daniela Lopez and Mackyala Scarlett who each finished with nine points apiece.
How it Happened
The Musketeers made their first three field goal attempts to jump out to an early 7-3 lead before the Blue Demons went on a 20-0 run to take a 23-7 advantage. Xavier was held scoreless for a six-minute stretch as DePaul held a 25-10 advantage after the first quarter.
Back-to-back triples from Sidor put the Blue Demons in front by 22 halfway through the second quarter. Gilbert's three with less than a minute remaining in the first half gave DePaul a 44-29 edge heading into halftime.
The Blue Demons shot 50-percent from the field in the first half, while knocking down seven threes.
Both teams experienced a lull in the offense coming out of the locker room, as each side netted just two points through the first three minutes before Peoples and Sidor connected from long range for a 52-27 lead midway through the third period.
Ohiaeri's second three of the fourth quarter gave the Blue Demons a 30-point advantage heading into the final minute of the ball game before Haley Walker put a bow on the scoring with a fastbreak layup to seal the 32-point win.
