DePaul Visits Providence to Tipoff New Year

Blue Demons and Friars meet at 10 am CST with coverage on FloHoops
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – DePaul women's basketball will begin 2024 on the road with a trip to Providence set for Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Alumni Hall. Tipoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. CST with the game streamed live on FloHoops.

Following Wednesday's tilt, the Blue Demons will play its third game in six days when No. 21 Creighton visits Wintrust Arena on Saturday, Jan. 6. The matchup will be televised nationally on FS1 and is set to tipoff at 3 p.m. CST.

Noting the Blue Demons
- The Blue Demons look to return to the win column after falling to Georgetown on Dec. 31, 66-62. DePaul enters 2024 with a 9-6 record including a 1-1 mark in BIG EAST action.
- Against the Hoyas, veterans led the way as Anaya Peoples, Katlyn Gilbert and Jorie Allen combined for 50 of DePaul's 62 points. Peoples netted 21 points for her eighth 20-point performance of the season. Gilbert reached a season-high 16 points on a career-high three triples on four attempts while grabbing six boards. Allen stuffed the stat sheet for her first double-double of the season and second of her career with 13 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and five steals.
- Peoples' 19.4 points per game is third among all BIG EAST players. She has reached double figures in 13 of 14 games played this season.
- Allen's 10.7 points a contest is third on the team while her team-best 89-percent free-throw shooting ranks second in the league.
- The Blue Demons have been disruptive on the defensive end, averaging a league-best 11.3 steals per game and recording 10 or more takeaways in five-straight games. Gilbert's 39 steals is best in the BIG EAST.
- Sharing the ball has paid dividends for DePaul this season, when posting 20 or more assists the Blue Demons are 8-0. The team average of 19.4 assists per game ranks 17th nationally.
- DePaul will play just its fourth true road game of the season on Wednesday, going 1-2 in the previous contests, picking up a win at Xavier while coming up short at Louisville and Miami.
Scouting Providence
- The Friars are 7-7 on the season and 1-0 in BIG EAST play after a 51-46 win at Seton Hall last Saturday.
- Olivia Olsen has led offensive effort for Providence, averaging 14.6 points per game in addition to a team-best 8.6 rebounds a contest. The junior forward is shooting 58-percent from the field which ranks third in the BIG EAST this season.
- Providence ranks 20th in the nation in field goal percentage defense and top-50 in scoring defense. The Friars have held six opponents to 50 or fewer points this season.
- Erin Batth is in her first season leading the Providence program.
- Wednesday's matchup will be the 35th all-time meeting between the two programs with DePaul leading the series 29-4 and winning the last 23 matchups.
- The Blue Demons are 12-2 in games played in the Ocean State.
- Last time the two sides met, DePaul came away with a 67-54 victory in the first round of the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena.
