No. 9 Connecticut Defeats DePaul in Storrs

Maeve McErlane nets team-high 15 points in the loss
STORRS, Conn. – The DePaul women's basketball team suffered an 88-51 loss to No. 9/10 Connecticut on Saturday afternoon in front of a sold-out crowd at Gampel Pavilion. After the first five minutes, the Blue Demons couldn't quite find their rhythm offensively while committing a season-high 27 turnovers in the setback.
Connecticut improved to 16-3 on the season and 8-0 in BIG EAST play while the Blue Demons fell to 10-10 and 2-5 in league action.
Sophomore guard Maeve McErlane finished with a team-high 15 points behind five three-point field goals to go with three rebounds and three assists. Katlyn Gilbert and Anaya Peoples dropped in eight points apiece with Peoples grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.
The Blue Demons hit 10 threes on the afternoon, the eighth time with double-digit triples on this season and second-consecutive outing.
Three Huskies finished in double figures with freshman Ashlynn Shade posting a game-high 21 points.
How it Happened
DePaul's third three of the game courtesy of Charlece Ohiaeri put the Blue Demons in front 11-10 before the Huskies rattled off a 6-0 run halfway through the first quarter. A five-and-a-half-minute scoreless stretch for DePaul saw UConn widen their margin to double digits, taking a 30-14 lead after 10 minutes.
After Gilbert splashed a three on the left wing, DePaul would be held without a basket for a 6:30 stretch as the Huskies outscored the Blue Demons 19-7 in the second quarter to take a 49-21 advantage into the locker room.
The third quarter would be the highest scoring quarter of the game for DePaul, putting up 17 in the period behind Peoples' seven points, but the Huskies held a 70-38 edge heading into the fourth.
Connecticut closed out the victory by an 18-13 fourth-quarter margin.
