Blue Demons Can’t Contain Wildcats

Katlyn Gilbert posts team-high 12 points in the loss
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball couldn't find an answer for a sharp-shooting Villanova team on Sunday afternoon as the Blue Demons fell 95-64 at Wintrust Arena. The Wildcats shot 54-percent from the field and used a 20-2 run between the second and third quarters to improve to 13-7 on the season and 6-3 in BIG EAST play while DePaul dropped to 10-12 and 2-7 in league action.
Graduate guard Katlyn Gilbert led the Blue Demons with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists while Anaya Peoples followed with 10 points, going a perfect 6-6 on the free throw line, while adding five rebounds and two assists. CAGO –
Michelle Sidor and Shakara McCline added nine points apiece.
Lucy Olsen led four Wildcats in double figures with a game-high 24 points.
How it Happened
Sidor opened the scoring for DePaul with a floater in the lane while back-to-back buckets from Gilbert put the Blue Demons in front 11-7. Villanova used a 6-2 run to close the period in front 24-20.
In the second quarter the Wildcats managed to keep the Blue Demons at an arm's length. DePaul was held scoreless for the last three minutes of the half as Villanova held a 44-32 edge after the first 20 minutes.
Gilbert and Peoples combined for 18 first-half points.
The Wildcats opened the third on an 8-0 run to push their advantage to 20. A pair of free throws from Kate Clarke brought the Blue Demons back within 15, but Villanova took a 65-46 lead into the fourth quarter..
Villanova scored 30 fourth-quarter points to close out the victory.
