Women’s Soccer goes unbeaten in three-match homestand
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer conquered Seton Hall Thursday evening, taking home the spoils at Wish Field in a 3-1 decision. The Blue Demons extended their unbeaten streak to five, earning back-to-back victories for the first time since Aug. 2023, and remaining unbeaten against the Pirates in eleven straight matches.
"We aren't where we are now by chance," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "It's been a work in progress, and our players are fully invested in the process and committed to it. To be successful, you have to stay disciplined, game in and game out, and commit to what the team is doing. We are in a really good place, owning that responsibility and holding each other to high standards. We just have to keep doing what we're doing and focus on what's working for us—I think that's what's gotten us to where we are now."
DePaul (4-5-5, 2-1-3 BIG EAST) moves one game within .500 after taking down then-No. 18 Georgetown and Seton Hall in back-to-back matches at home. The Blue Demons netted three finishes against the Pirates, the most of any match this season. Sophomore Lea Eisenring secured two early PK goals, and junior Freya Jupp threaded the needle on a 32nd minute right-footer to put DePaul up 3-0 before the intermission.
Seton Hall (4-8-3, 1-3-2 BIG EAST) dropped its second-straight BIG EAST feature, falling to 1-6-2 on the road this season. Phoebe Hampson scored the Pirates' lone goal of the game in the 76th minute, but to no avail. The Pirates held a 16% possession time advantage, but could not overcome the stout play by the Blue Demons' back line.
How it Happened
The action kicked off early, with both teams registering a shot within the first six minutes.
However, it was the Blue Demons who capitalized first on a penalty kick opportunity from the right foot of Eisenring. The goal marked the first of her career, putting DePaul ahead in the 14th minute.
Just three minutes later, the Pirates committed another foul in the box, setting up Eisenring for her second goal of the match, marking the first multi-goal game for any Blue Demon this season.
In the 20th minute, junior Briley Hill came close to scoring with a powerful shot aimed at the top of the net, but her attempt sailed just over the crossbar.
The Blue Demon offense continued to press, with Beth Smyth taking two shots in a four-minute span, though both came up short.
Finding her spot, Jupp made her move and netted a 32nd-minute strike to put the Blue Demons up 3-0.
Jupp, Susie Soderstrom, and Mackenzie Lee all had chances at the net, but none could secure the Blue Demons' fourth goal before half. DePaul attempted seven shots on goal in the first half, the most in any 45-minute span this season.
Seton Hall's first shot of the second half came in the 57th minute off the foot of Olivia Beauvois, but Elena Milam was there to stop the Pirates' attack.
Seton Hall registered two more shot attempts by the 73rd minute, and Hampson finally found the net in the 76th minute with a beautiful set piece from Lily Camacho.
Seton Hall registered three yellow cards in the second half as the intensity of the match increased, with both teams battling for control.
Chiara Pucci sent the Pirates' final shot wide right in the 87th minute, halting Seton Hall's attack.
The Pirates' search for gold was cut short at Wish Field Thursday evening, thanks to a dominant first-half performance by the Blue Demons.
