Smyth nets her second tally of the season in the setback
OMAHA, Neb. – DePaul women's soccer fell to Creighton on the road 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Morrison Stadium, snapping a five-match unbeaten streak.
"Road games are always challenging, and today just wasn't our best," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "We lacked composure in key moments and couldn't find a rhythm to execute our style of play. I felt we allowed them to dictate the style and pace of the game, and the areas where we've been consistent and solid were lacking today. But I'm proud of the team's effort, and I know we'll learn from this. We'll come back stronger and be ready for another tough road match at UConn on Thursday."
After the Bluejays scored in the early going, the Blue Demons remained patient and leveled the score just before half on a Beth Smyth goal in the 44th minute.
After halftime, it didn't take long for Creighton to reclaim the lead, scoring in the 48th minute and then adding insurance in the 70th minute.
The Blue Demons struggled to find their groove offensively, firing just four shots in the full 90 including two on target.
Creighton improve to 7-5-1 and 4-3 in BIG EAST play. With the loss, the Blue Demons fell to 4-6-5 and 2-2-3 in league action.
Graduate goalkeeper Elena Milam totaled a season-high eight saves on the afternoon while facing 19 shots, the most by an opponent this season.
Smyth's goal was her second of the season with boath strikes coming within the last week while Susie Soderstrom notched her first assist of the season and third of her career.
Creighton's Ariana Mondiri recorded a brace while Anna Bragg registered the final goal of the contest.
