Jorie Allen Selected Preseason All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention

NEW YORK – DePaul women's basketball's Jorie Allen was named Preseason All-BIG East Honorable Mention as announced Wednesday morning prior to the conference's annual basketball media day.

Allen, a 6-1 graduate student forward, suits up for the Blue Demons for one final season as the program's top returning scorer and rebounder. The Bedford, Ind. native will play a critical leadership role on this season's squad as a veteran voice on a team with eight newcomers and a combined 10 underclassmen.

A season ago, Allen started all 32 contests for DePaul, finishing second on the team with averages of 11.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, both career bests. The senior posted four double-doubles on the year and closed out the season fifth in the conference in free-throw percentage (.833) and second in offensive rebounds (3.1 per game).

Allen finished in double-figures on 17 occasions last season while grabbing seven or more rebounds 16 times.

Pursuing a Masters in Fine Arts in writing and publishing, Allen was named to the Division I Athletic Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team, an honor bestowed upon just 10 student-athletes nationwide.

The Blue Demons were picked to finish ninth in the league by a vote of the 11 head coaches. Connecticut was the unanimous preseason favorite with Creighton and Providence rounding out the top three. DePaul was selected ahead of Marquette (10th) and Xavier (11th).

DePaul, led by interim head coach Jill M. Pizzotti, will once again face a rugged schedule with 14 matchups on the docket against teams that finished top-75 in the 2023-24 season end's NET rankings.

In the month of November alone the Blue Demons will face three opponents ranked in the preseason AP Poll including No. 4 Texas (Nov. 17), No. 10 Oklahoma (Nov. 25) and No. 11 Duke or No. 13 Kansas State (Nov. 27). Five-time Ivy League champions Princeton will visit Chicago on Nov. 9.

The Blue Demons will open the regular season on Wednesday, November 6 against Mercyhurst. Tipoff from Wintrust Arena is scheduled for 11 a.m.
