Hernandez, Finnegan net goals in BIG EAST victory
OMAHA, Neb. – DePaul men's soccer earned its first BIG EAST win of the season on Friday night by way of a 2-0 decision over Creighton at Morrison Stadium.
The Blue Demons made the most of their limited attacking chances, with scoring leaders Noeh Hernandez and Logan Finnegan finding the back of the net.
DePaul (4-4-2, 1-1-1 BIG EAST) picked up its first victory over Creighton since the 2021 season and first on the road against the Bluejays in the series history between the two programs.
The back line of Christian Baumgartner, George Wyatt, Evan Jimerson and Ryan Thomas stood tall time and time again as Creighton registered 23 shots including nine on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Santiago Davila earned his second-consecutive clean sheet and second of his career, making seven saves on the evening.
How it Happened
The Bluejays looked to be the aggressor in the early going, firing a shot and earning a corner in the first five minutes.
Hernandez made the most of a ball misplayed in his direction in the midfield, driving to the top of the box and firing with his left foot past the outstretched arms of the Creighton goalkeeper to give the Blue Demons an early advantage.
The Blue Demons would see no further chances materialize in the first 45 minutes, with a lopsided 7-1 shot differential.
DePaul's defense never broke down, turning away a number of point blank Bluejay chances including a diving goal-line save from Davila in the 70th minute.
In the game's waning moments, Finnegan maintained the pressure on the counterattack, forcing a turnover and turning in a goal from just outside the six-yard box with his left boot.
