Blue Demons prepare for final game of 2024
CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball prepares for its final game of non-conference action as the team also concludes the 2024 calendar year, Saturday, Dec. 28, against Loyola (Md.). The game is slated for a 1 p.m. tip from Wintrust Arena on FS1. Connor Onion and Stephen Bardo are on the broadcast call, while Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have DePaul's radio broadcast.
After a month of December that included three of its last five games on the road, DePaul (8-4, 0-2 BIG EAST) will turn its full attention to BIG EAST play come January.
LAST TIME OUT
Jacob Meyer and Conor Enright led DePaul against Northwestern last Saturday where the Blue Demons dropped the road contest, 84-64. Meyer had a team-high 18 points, followed by 12 points from Enright who also contributed seven rebounds and six assists. Additionally, David Skogman notched his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Northwestern opened the game shooting a perfect 9-of-9 to push out to a fast lead that DePaul wouldn't be able to overcome. DePaul cut the deficit to single-digits multiple times in the second half of the game, but couldn't overtake the Wildcats on their home court.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
Meyer has led DePaul in scoring in four games this season, including three of the last five. The sophomore is shooting over 45 percent from three, ranking among the nations best for underclassmen. As a whole, DePaul has four players shooting above 40 percent from distance and another three above 34 percent. DePaul's team three-point percentage continues to be among the nation's elite, ranking 14th nationally.
DePaul has a team-stretch of 12-straight games, dating back to last season, where they have shot above 30 percent from three. The Blue Demons have made 10 or more three-pointers in all but one game this season, and are 7-1 when shooting above 35 percent.
SCOUTING LOYOLA MD.
Loyola (Md.) is led by Josh Loeffler who is in his first season at the helm, after he served as an assistant at Cincinnati during 2023-24. Loeffler was previously the head coach at Johns Hopkins where he led the Blue Jays to four DIII Tournaments in five competitive seasons and the 2023 DIII Sweet Sixteen.
The Greyhounds are led by senior Milos Illic who is averaging 14.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. The Serbia native is shooting 55.1 percent from the floor this season and ranks 28th nationally in rebounds per game.
THE SERIES
Saturday marks the second all-time meeting between the two programs. The first meeting came in the 2022-23 season, when DePaul defeated the Greyhounds 72-66 in Chicago.
UP NEXT
