Blue Demons Open New Year Against #11 UConn

CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team opens 2025 with a New Year's day game against two-time defending national champion, No. 11 UConn, Wednesday afternoon. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. tip on CBS Sports Network. John Sadak and Steve Lappas will have the television call while Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine have DePaul's radio broadcast.
LAST TIME OUT
DePaul picked up its ninth non-conference win of the season on Saturday as they defeated Loyola (Md.), 84-65. The Blue Demons were boosted by a career outing from NJ Benson who tallied 22 points and 17 rebounds on 10-of-14 shooting. DePaul had a season-high 52 points in the paint and 24 second chance points.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul (9-4, 0-2 BIG EAST) enters 2025 still in search for its first BIG EAST win of the season. The Blue Demons are 9-1 this season at home, with its only loss coming in overtime to Providence in the teams' conference opener.
As a team, DePaul is 7-0 this season when shooting 50 percent or higher from the field. Jacob Meyer continues to be the team's leading scorer, averaging 14.5 points per game while shooting 43.2 percent from three-point range.
SCOUTING UCONN
UConn (10-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) rides a six-game win streak coming into Wednesday's matchup, including a pair of BIG EAST wins against Xavier and Butler. Alex Karaban is the Huskies leading scorer with 16.5 points per game while also contributing 5.1 rebounds. Tarris Reed Jr. is the team's leading rebounder with 8.2.
The Huskies rank third nationally with 19.8 assists per game and are second in assist to turnover ratio, all while also leading the country with 6.8 blocks per game. Three different Huskies including Karaban, Reed Jr. and Samson Johnson are among the top-10 blockers in the BIG EAST.

UConn leads the all-time series 19-1 with DePaul's lone win coming Jan. 31, 2007 where the Blue Demons defeated the Huskies 66-58. UConn has won 18 in a row against DePaul.
