Brown, Hudak Break DePaul Records at Blue & Gold Invite

Blue Demons impress in first competition of season
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – DePaul track and field opened its 2024-25 season with a strong showing at the Blue & Gold Invite in South Bend, Ind., on Friday. The Blue Demons notched five first-place finishes, highlighted by senior Darius Brown and graduate student Dustin Hudak breaking DePaul records in their respective events.
"It was a solid first day for us," said head coach Dave Dopek. "The first meet is always about shaking the competitive rust off. The team had great energy, and the staff was energetic and cohesive. Definitely a good sign of things to come."
The Blue Demons got off to a fast start in field events, with graduate student Kash Allen claiming gold in the women's weight throw, reaching a mark of 16.77m.
Alex Bernstein added another first-place finish for DePaul in the men's weight throw, while Quinton Boyd debuted with a strong second-place performance.
Allen later secured her second top-three finish of the day with a silver in the women's shot put, recording a throw of 14.45m.
Jaiah Hopf earned silver in the women's long jump with an impressive leap of 5.88m.
Hudak dazzled in his DePaul debut, setting a school record in the men's 1000m with a time of 2:23.51.
Sophomore-transfer Tyce Smith dominated the men's 400m, taking home gold and earning a PR with a time of 48.41.
Meanwhile, Brown capped off the men's 300m with a record-breaking PR of 33.28.
Claire Dunn kept her momentum from last season, finishing third in the women's 300m with a time of 39.70.
Amelia Barrington, Lauren Pacsi, and Charles Lewis all achieved personal records in the high jump, 400m dash, and 300m dash, respectively.
In the women's 60m dash, senior Jetta Mays and freshman Sade Miller posted top-three finishes with times of 7.55 and 7.65.
The meet concluded with a stellar performance in the 4x400 relay, where Brown, Dominic Cole, Lewis, and Smith teamed up to secure first place, wrapping up an impressive opening day for the Blue Demons.
