DePaul Kicks Off HEB Tournament of Champions

Blue Demons travel to Corpus Christi, Texas for weekend tourney
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS. – DePaul men's tennis heads to Texas to compete in the H.E.B. Tournament of Champions, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Teams featured in the President's Day weekend of action include DePaul, Abilene Christian, Alcorn St., UL-Lafayette, New Mexico St., Oral Roberts, and UT Arlington.
Announced on Thursday afternoon, DePaul (3-3) is set to square off against UT-Arlington (3-3) on Friday, Feb. 16, at 1:00 p.m. CT. On Saturday, Feb. 17, the Blue Demons will take on UL-Lafayette (3-6) at 9:00 a.m. CT to close out its appearance at Corpus Christi.
With likely rainy conditions affecting the tournament, multiple teams pulled out from participating, and action was subsequently moved from the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center to the H-E-B Tennis Center, roughly nine miles northwest.
Last time out, DePaul dominated Army in an impressive 4-1 decision on Sunday, Feb. 4 in West Point, N.Y. The Blue Demons gave up just three total games in doubles, outscoring Army 12-3 to clinch their first point of the day. Equally as impressive, Pablo Torres Almeida, Matteo Iaquinto, and Sven Moser each claimed victories in their singles and doubles matches to carry DePaul to victory.
Going into the weekend, Pablo Torres Almeida leads the team with four singles victories, while Shourya Verma holds an impressive 4-0 doubles record thus far.
The Blue Demons last faced UT-Arlington on Jan. 30, 2016, when they fell 6-1. Additionally, DePaul dropped its last contest against UL-Lafayette during the 2019 edition of the HEB Tournament of Champions, 4-0.
