DePaul drops first match of weekend slate
CHICAGO – DePaul Men's Tennis could not contain Western Michigan (WMU) after a hot start on Saturday evening at XS Tennis Village, falling 2-5. The Blue Demons jumped ahead early, clinching the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2, but would go on to win just one of six singles matches.

Leon Huck and Sven Moser continued their undefeated campaign as a pair, dominating WMU's Benjamin George and Drew Evans by a score of 6-3 at No. 2.

Coming off their first loss of the season at No. 1 doubles last week, Shourya Verma and Jona Gitschel bounced back, gathering their fourth victory in five matches together this season. The duo took down Anton Arzhankin and Jackson Boone, 6-4, to give the Blue Demons the first point of the night.

After an even 3-3 split in set one, DePaul could only muster enough momentum to nab one victory in the second set. Huck defeated Jackson Boone in a luminous performance at the No. 1 court, 7-6 (10-6), 6-4, tying the game score at two a piece.

At the No. 4 position, Verma fell in his first set to Jackson Boone, 3-6, but would open the second set up on a 5-0 run. Boone rebounded, outscoring Verma 7-1 to push the second set to a tiebreaker. In the end, it was Boone that came out ahead, clinching a consequential third point for WMU with a 10-6 tiebreaker victory.

Laurentiu Mandocescu and Moser each pushed their singles matches to a third set but could not come out on top. Both fell in the third set 4-6, making the final tally WMU 5, DePaul 2.
